Firestorm bugs/issues

Yeah i know there’s a Jira for this but i really don’t like jiras and forums. These things are a complete clusterfuck and it’s damn near impossible to find anything useful. Half of everything are duplicate posts, which is only due to JIRAs craptastic search function when looking for know bugs and issues.  It’s only the anal retentive jira TROLLS who know every jira post by heart can tell if a post is a duplicate or not.  So i never really found jiras (and forums for that matter) useful. They are a pain in the ass to weed though, far to much bullshit to deal with, only to get some troll to flame you for posting a dupe.  There’s got to be something better. Wiki’s are just as confusing.  Especially Phoenix’s wiki with this horrible color scheme; I can’t read anything when typing in a search in their wiki.

So in lue of that, I’ll just post on my own blog.

Also if you are a Phoenix or Firestorm viewer user, you really should join the Phoenix/Firestorm Viewer support group, there are always helpful people who will answer your questions about the viewer.

AO dosen’t activate at login or when you turn it on, until you move your avatar (walk, crouch, or turn) Phoenix’s AO would run the moment it’s turned on or if you already had it on when you login. Scripted AOs run the moment you turn them on. FS’s AO has had this behavor since it was put into it. (mac and windows)

When detaching an object from your avatar, or HUD, your inventory window pops open. Does this on both mac and windows.

The new friends management system is nice, but it only works per-computer. If you use more than 1 computer to login to SL your organized friends list will not trasnfer to your other computer.  Thusly clean installing the viewer will clear this out.

There needs to be less redundancy.  With the new friends management, we now have THREE places where we can see our friends list.  Conversations window, people window, and now the new friends management organizer thing.

There is some confusion with Font Scalling (used to be UI Scalling) and font Size in a different area of preferences.  These sort of things should be under the same section in prefrences to avoid confusion, and give it some more consolidation for options of a simular nature.

Still having problems with font scaling and the cursor being WAY OFF position in edit fields (note cards, script editing, profile notes, etc) due to the settings mentioned above. There was mention that the phoenix team had hired someone to fix this problem.

Noticing some occasional de-rendering of attached sculpted prims (with transparent textures on them) that dissappear but often come back after zooming in on them or right clicking on a parent prim linked to them.  It dosen’t flicker off and on it just dissappears on occasion.

Can there be temp uploads of mesh for testing, as we can already do with textures?

I make quite a few sales every day and get paid directly, but why does FS have these lingering notices about someone paying me L$? Why should I have to babysit these stupid notices cluttering things up, for something that happend hours or days ago?  STOP IT!

What the fuck is wrong with second life? Nothing works, everything glacially lagged, my avatar never seems to rez, everyone is a cloud or gray, error messages spew about how gestures and inventory wasn’t found, constantly getting logged out of the sim because it times out since there’s so much fucking lag. WHAT THE FUCK LINDEN LABS?

So you laid off 30% of your work force, your short lived CEO quit, and a few other employees jumped ship. So you must have some extra cash floating around from payroll to get things fixed up. Plus there’s the millions of L$ that goes though BOTH market exchanges (LindeX, and XStreet) that you guys take a cut from every transaction; yet you can’t seem to scrape up enough money for faster asset servers that don’t have a meltdown every SIX months, and better internal network?  Shit maybe if you didn’t have several co-locations AROUND THE COUNTRY, your VPN wouldn’t be so congested?

Who bothers with JIRA anyway? It’s a pain in the ass to search for an issue so you don’t dupe a JIRA problem. When you do post an issue, some asshole (who isn’t a LL employee) who does nothing in his life but troll and track everything that is the JIRA, has to point out that your post is a dupe, that’s probably been there for over a year but one one else has read it.  Let alone any LL employee has read it, yet will act surprised and apologetic by the issue, as if they never heard of this tired old issues before… assuming anyone bothers to point it out to a Linden.

You know the Lindens don’t bother reading JIRA posts, since it’s no different than anything else. Hundreds of dupes, people complaining and whining, flame wars, plus spam. So it’s like weeding though  Email, or worse message forums!  So most people just don’t bother with that crap, and so the JIRA is no better than a forum post, or an Email lost in a pile of spam.  JIRA is just a waste of time.

So what is left for us residents to do to get ANYTHING done on Second Life?  Sit around and bitch about lag as we wait an hour for our avatars to rez?  Gets really boring you know.

Save the Grid, GO NAKED!

Think of this as being environmentally conscious in regards too the Second Life Grid.

One of the biggest problems I’ve learned with the lag issue are users wearing objects that are loaded with heavy scripts that aren’t really needed anymore; notably resizing scripts.  Prim hair, prim skirts, shoes, body part attachments (like boobs and penises), and so on use scripts that are using initially, and then never used again.

The issue is being tracked on JIRA, SVC-3895 so please VOTE!

Sure, these scripts help users who aren’t really keen on how to build and edit things, and it’s a necessary evil for items you get that are ‘no modify.’  But once you have your item all properly re-sized and set up, you don’t use the re-sizer script anymore, but it’s still sitting there (often the script exists in EVERY PRIM in the object you’re wearing, which compounds the problem) and it’s still running taking up resources from the region you’re hanging out in.

I also find these re-sizing scripts annoying since if you happen to accidentally click that object you’re wearing (especially hair, prim skirts, or your boobs) you have to deal with the stupid menu that appears, and then see a useless time out message about 30 seconds later telling you that your time us up.

So please, be consciously aware of simulator lag issues, and to help save the grid, GO NAKED!  Don’t wear items that have these scripts that bog the sim down. If at all possible, try to REMOVE the offending scripts once you have it altered to how you need it, since you really don’t need the script anymore once you have it properly set up for your avatar. Even if the object is (no modify) it still may be possible to remove the scripts.  So as long as your object is copyable (or you still have the original box you unpacked with the original copy still in it) you should try to lighten the load you cause on the simulator by removing excess scripts you’re not using.

Also STOP WEARING SPAMY OBJECTS.  I swear to gawd this is my biggest pet peeve.  Why is it that 90% of all the items people wear, have to {llSay(@#!$@#$!$#)} some meaningless stupid inept bullshit no matter now mundane and pointless the action is?  I really don’t need to know that someone is touching your boobs (or has touched anything), or has spanked your ass, or even the really mundane bullshit like how someone is sitting on the sofa.

It is extremely asinine to see this crap because so many content creators for some FUCKING reason believe this is needed; when most people on SL already know how to read and write, and they CAN roleplay/emote/cybersex/netsex on their own… you’d THINK. But all this crap really does is ADD TO THE LAG to the simulator you’re hanging out in.  Then we have those ridiculous language translators which fall into the same category.  It’s annoying and it just adds to the lag.

I also recommend using Emerald Viewer to help ligten your lag-footprint on the grid. Emerald has a lot of built-in functions that make many scripted objects people wear obsolete.  Such as radar HUD attachments, Emerald’s Radar if fucking AWSOME!  Also Emerald has recently added an Animation Overrider (AO) so you really no longer NEED to have an AO attachment anymore.

Less scripts running on your avatar, them smaller footprint you load on the simulator you’re in, the less LAG you incur on the simulator, and the grid at large.

One of the things I did recently was to take even my nude avatar lookset, and removed exesses prims and scripts I just don’t need if I’m not really using them, and still preserve my hot avatar’s appearance.  I even took my new penis, removed all the scripts in it, and removed all the extra prims off leaving only the “soft” sculpted shape and the penis head, plus I don’t bother wearing the HUD for my penis if I’m don’t plan on using it, but just show off.  So if I do plan on using my penis, I’ll just wear the full functional one if I’m going to dance on the poles, or if I get hired.  Otherwise there’s no point in me wearing the full functional penis if I don’t plan on doing anything with it, other than to have it hang between my legs all day.  Makes sense dosen’t it?
