Did I fry my mobo?

I have an old old Athlon XP 3000+ PC I’ve had since around 2003. The CMOS battery (3v coin lithium) has been dead for some time, so I’m always constantly entering in BIOS info everytime i use it. I even swapped it for a newer battery from another motherboard that was much newer, but it eventually died. So i went out and got a new one, a duracel “medical” battery as it was labled as.  It’s the same size, and same voltage as all these other coin batteries.  So i pop it into this old “MSI K7N2 nForce2 ultra” mobo, and it doesn’t even POST anymore. Did the new battery fry the CMOS/bios chip?  Maybe it had more mil-amps than the other batteries and it fried it. Every time I power on nothing happens except the fans whirring.  <sigh>

  1. No, amps shouldn’t make a difference, it would only pull as much as it needed, UNLESS something else was wrong and made it pull more.

    • Yeah you’re right. It was working perfectly fine just yesterday, just had a dead CMOS battery and now it acts like it doesn’t have BIOS anymore after popping in a new battery. WTF?
