Second Life Freeloaders

They are ruining SL as much as any clueless Linden employee passing bad policies. What I mean by freeloaders are the ones who never have any L$ on them. I don’t just mean people who aren’t premium members (I’m not) or don’t have payment info on file. I’m talking about the “forever-noobs” who never bother to participate in the SL economy.

But you don’t have to spend real money to participate in the economy. If you can manage to earn/make L$ on your own, you’ll likely spend it on something, and that activity in-and-of-it-self helps the economy. Even if you make enough L$ to cash out $50 every once in a while, is good.  Some of that money goes back into LL’s and keeps them in business.  This is why Second Life has lasted longer than did.

If you’re a total freeloader, using nothing but freebie items, with a L$ balance less than 100, and never bothering to do more than use SL as an elaborate chat room, scamming on every female avatar you see (troll), then you are just a leach on the Linden Labs resources.

Granted you can also blame LL for not giving any real incentive to do much more in Second Life other than that.  LL has become stagnant and boring to the point that noobs come in hang out maybe for a month at best (get abused by oldbies) and leave out of dissapoitment, and boredem.

  1. No, LL doesn’t go out of the way to encourage you to participate in the economy as well as they could… The L$ used to seem to go a lot further in the past too. I hate built a decent avatar, rented the penthouse in Ravelglass tower for a few years, then a slip behind the tower to park my airship over the water, several other airships, a car or two…and tipped more dancers than most people ever meet in SL. But now I have about L$250 and don’t rent anymore, haven’t been to a club with dancers in months, and haven’t earned a L$ in quite awhile. The economic problems in the RL have been replicated in SL as well. Hard to stimulate the economy when you aren’t making any L$ of your own in there.

    • I agree but since everyone is going for the cheap, there’s more and more freeloaders using SL and not participating in it’s economy. That’s a drain on SL.

    • youi might be looking at copied materials (i.e IP theft) and being resold for dirt cheap. Do you remember “Gold Farmers” from World of Warcraft? It’s the same people who did that who are doing this in second life, and setting up automatic money makers so they can then resell the L$ they make. LL dosen’t really seem to care about this, since they make their cut either way.
