Driver problems

Filed under: Uncategorized — Hugsie @ 5:58 pm

Got my new video card and it works great. So I took out the temporary card I was using in my other PC, and put it back in. Runs fine, but I decided to reinstall windows 7 on it. that went fine, but the problem is that i want to install nvidia’s own reference drivers (260.99) for my old GeForce 6800 GS, but the installer fails every time i use it.  I’ve downloaded different copies, and same result.

because of this, Second Live viewers refuse to run due to no OpenGL support.  Though SL viewers don’t actually STATE this in the error message (would be nice if it did) but we all know that’s why.  And why cant Microsoft include opengl drivers in their OS?  Apple can, Linux distros can…  so WTF Bill?

I’ve even went a head and downloaded the drivers from Microsoft, but that dosen’t include the OpenGL drivers that the nvidia reference drivers do have. This machine uses an AMD Athlon x2 64, with an Abit AN8 Ultra nForce4 mobo (socket 939).  There are no mobo drivers for Windows 7 as they come on the windows install disc, and all of that stuff works fine (ide, usb, sound, NIC, etc).

Tried 260.89 drivers, and they also failed. >sigh!< And dosen’t explain WHY, just says failed.
