Same shit diffrent week

Filed under: Second Life Shit! — hugsalot @ 4:59 pm

I’m really burned out on SL since the year started.  All I see on the Linden Blog are more posts about this never ending cycle about how things are fucked up, resolved, and then fucked up again. Plus updates to diffrent viewers versions, RCs, and Windlight.  Plus there’s this new “dazzle” bullshit thing whatever that is supposed to do.  Who fucking cares anymore.

I’ve been spending most of my time on my Xbox 360, which didn’t break yet.  So far it’s been redlight free this year, but it’s only February. I finally beat Expert Guitar on Rock Band. (wewt!)  Beat band career mode, but my friend and I still need to finish off the “Endless set list,” probably next weekend. I’m buying new songs for Rock Band, some are great, some suck ass. Playing some old classic games for the original Xbox, Psychonaughts, since I never had the original Xbox. I’m really close to 10,000 gamer score!

I’ve also been watching more TV, and getting into a TV series called Jericho that started airing on Sci-Fi, XBL had a free episode to download, and so I downloaded the entire first season off of Bit Torrent, and I’m still watching the first season.

Objects are larger than they appear in SL

Filed under: Second Life Shit! — hugsalot @ 6:01 am

From what I understand, the smallest parcel of land you can devide up is 16 square meters.  A lot of land squatters break up land into these small units so they can make more money selling them all.  The odd thing is that these small plots of land are TINY compared to objects that are even 10 sq/m.  Your average avatar is about 6 feet tall, which is just under two meters (188cm) and you’d think 16²m would be about the size of a couple bedrooms, or a small home, but in game it seems like the size of a king size bed mattress.

Say you rez a block, and you max it out to 10²m, which is 10×10 (height doesn’t matter).  Turn on “Property Lines” (CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-P)  so you can see the borders around parcels. Move your block near a small plot of 16×16 land, and you’ll notice it’s about three times larger than the parcel of land.  WTF?

Why is this such a huge discrepancy with land measurements vs. in-world objects?  Are objects exaggerated? Or are land parcels overstated when you view “About Land” info?  So what’s the deal?
